General Information
Frequently asked questions:

Q: Should my dog be taking heartworm preventive?
A: Yes! We recommend using it all year round. Heartworm disease is transmitted by mosquitoes. Here in Maryland it doesn't really get cold enough to kill all mosquitoes. Heartworm is easy to prevent, but can be deadly and is quite expensive to treat. We recommend heartworm checks annually if the dog is not on preventive all year and every two years if he is.
We carry Interceptor and Sentinal as our preventives.

Q: Should my dog be on flea and tick preventive?
A: Yes! Again, we recommend using it all year due to the weather here. Fleas can be a big problem to treat. Deer ticks transmit lyme disease. We cary Frontline Plus as our preventive. Frontline will not protect your dog from lyme disease, (we do offer the Lyme vaccine) but it does kill the ticks and fleas that may get on your dog or cat.

Q: What is microchipping?
A: Microchipping is another form of identification for your pet. It is a small chip that is placed under the skin, in between the shoulder blades. It has a number in it. That number will be linked to your information and should your pet ever get away, it is a good way to help retrieve him. We use HomeAgain as our provider and we offer this service at any time.

We happily welcome all new clients. We do ask that you bring all previous records with you even if it is a puppy or kitten. Also, we do ask that you bring a fresh stool sample so that we can check for any parasites the animal may have. Parasites can cause many issues, one of which is diarrhea, however, this is very treatable once we know what the cause is.
